Washed Ashore

A few days ago I was given the amazing opportunity to check out the Washed Ashore exhibit now on display FREE to the public at Metrotown Metropolis! This incredible exhibit is made up of 9 beautiful pieces all created from marine debris found off our shores. Not only is it beautiful to see, it is so impactful as a message. It was truly amazing to check out and really look at all the details.

This is exactly why we decided to create a homeschooling field trip day out of it, making it a fun day filled with learning and reflection. Afterall it is the perfect moment to show and talk about the negative and positive impacts the human race has on the planet. Creating too much waste but also being able to create such massive beauty out of a negative.

Washed Ashore

Washed Ashore, Art to Save the Sea is a non-profit organisation that uses art and education to combat plastic pollution. Their mission is to create and display aesthetically powerful art in order to educate a global audience about plastic pollution in the ocean and waterways, as well as to inspire positive changes in consumer habits. Washed Ashore has processed over 35 tonnes of plastic pollution from Pacific Northwest ocean beaches in ten years to create over 85 works of art that are awakening viewers’ hearts and minds to the global marine debris crisis.

After getting the chance to see this amazing exhibit I decided to make a quick printable worksheet for some of your older homeschoolers. This gives you the chance to open up conversations on bigger ideas, how marine debris travels and even a little bit of adaptable seek and find math!

Before you leave make sure to take a moment to enter their contest via their little kiosk right near the entrance/exit. You don’t want to miss out on all the opportunities to win a little shopping spree at Metropolis! For more information make sure to check out their website!

This exhibit will be open all the way until April 30th giving you ample time to check it out solo, with your kids or as a wonderful field trip.
