Prepare to be dazzled as the iconic story takes on a fresh and ingenious twist, promising laughter, excitement, and a sprinkle of magic for audiences of all ages.

Picture this: the quaint Waterfront Theatre (1412 Cartwright St) on Granville Island transforms into a wonderous wonderland from November 29 to December 31, 2023, where the timeless tale of Snow White comes to life in a wickedly beautiful reinterpretation. But hold on to your enchanted mirrors and poison apples because this production is unlike any other you’ve ever seen!

Under the direction of the incredibly talented Jennica Grienke, CTYP introduces playwright Greg Banks’ delightful take on Snow White. In this imaginative adaptation, two brilliant actors, Katrina Teitz and Carly Pokoradi, don multiple hats to embody a cast of beloved characters. From the handsome prince to the malicious queen, the helpful friends, and the pure-hearted Snow White herself, get ready for lightning-quick switches and mercurial transformations that will leave you in awe.

Jennica Grienke, the Snow White Director and Co-Artistic and Managing Director of Carousel Theatre for Young People, explains the unique challenge they faced: “How to pay homage to a fairytale classic adored by many while exploring new elements that leave audiences dazzled and pleasantly surprised? When we discovered Greg’s script, we immediately knew we had something magical that struck the perfect balance.”

Originally commissioned by the Minneapolis Children’s Theatre Company, Greg Banks’ script has enchanted audiences across North America. And now, it finds its home on the vibrant stage of Granville Island. The heartwarming tale follows Snow White’s journey as she escapes the clutches of an evil queen and finds solace with seven charming friends. But fear not! A certain prince is on his way to break the spell and awaken Snow White from her eternal slumber.

But that’s not all! The magic doesn’t stop with the actors. Sound Designer MJ Coomber will weave an enchanting original score on accordion, fiddle, French horn, and mandolin, adding a musical layer to the show. The creative team, including Set & Props Designer Monica Emme, Lighting Designer Rebekah Johnson, and Costume Designer Emily Friesen, has worked tirelessly to create a visual feast that will transport you straight into the heart of this fairytale wonder.
