School

So it is official this house is going to be homeschooling or distance learning come September. I know crazy right? Me in charge of their education… a grade 5 student and a grade 8 student, but the risk of sending them is just not worth it to me. Not worth putting the poor under supported teachers at risk or the multitudes of at risk families who feel they have no other choice.

But this is crazy. What is coming is going to be crazy and I am not interested in cutting off family that we love so much when I do have the ability to teach my kids at home cause thankfully I work part time and usually evenings. I have older kids, which means I don’t have to worry too much about getting outside childcare help for a couple hours here and there.

I am lucky, but I know not a lot of parents are so you know how I am helping them? I am keeping my kids out of the in school numbers in order to hopefully reduce the class size for those who are basically forced to head back this September.

So you know what I am going to be working on for the next couple weeks??

LOTS of school prep for at home learning and I would be lying if I told you I wasn’t excited about getting some great at home supplies. I also would be lying if I told you I knew where to start in that regard. I feel like I will be making endless trips to get things I realized I needed.

I will also be doing what I can to source some outside educational tools via local businesses and hands on learning out in the world. So I am both very stressed and very excited for the school year for my boys. I hope that I can bring back that excitement for learning they have lost in the public school system and I am excited that we will stay safe and that I know this decision will mean minimal to no educational interruptions because of this pandemic.

For our family staying out of school and learning at home is the best decision, but I want to hear what you are doing in your house.

How are you tackling the upcoming school year with your kids? What grades are they going into or are you teaching this September?
