Raising boys with ADHD

Raising Boys with ADHD
By: James W. Forgan, Ph.D., & Mary-Anne Richey

I was recently given the chance to review this great resource for parents raising boys with ADHD.  I was really into learning more about this, having relatively high strung boys myself and knowing that hubby shows almost all symptoms of adult ADHD etc... etc... I knew it was going to be an interesting read.  I was definitely right about that too I learned so much from it!

They have so much amazing information from different medications, how food allergies could be a factor, red food dye issues, and early development etc... I was just astounded at the wealth of information it has.  I am even going to be trying to avoid red food dye in my sons food to see if that does make an impact, heck I am thinking of eliminating it from everyone's diet in this house.  I never knew the effects that it could have on people, let alone the fact that it is in a TON of stuff!
Their sections on helping your boys succeed in teh best possible way, to help give you strategies on how to help them get from preschool to high school all of it was irreplaceable info.  Like the section listing all these questions to consider while looking for the perfect preschool for your child!  Or way to help with self es-teem issues as they grow.  It really sheds a light on a lot of different aspects of ADHD and again I found it really interesting.  They even set up and section of myths and misconceptions that people have about ADHD which is really important even for people not raising children with ADHD.  For example:

"Myth: If a boy is hyper, then he has ADHD.  Fact: Boys who are hyper do not always have ADHD.  Other things, such as anxiety, can cause hyperactive types of behaviors."
I would highly suggest this book if you have boys.  A really awesome and informative read that lays it out in a really great and simple way.  I was definitely impressed.
