A pie adventure!

I have never made a pie.  I have always wanted to learn how to do it, or in this case teach myself.  What brought along this obsession that I never followed thru with?  This movie, this amazing movie I first saw when I was pregnant with eldest.

I found this movie I love so deeply again a few days ago and I just HAD to finish what I wanted to start so long ago.  I started running around looking for recipes and came up with a pecan pie recipe.  Not the healthiest recipe but I had all the ingredients and went at it crust and ALL.

For the dough all you need is flour, salt, oil and water!  That's right that is IT!  I would share the exact instructions but as a dough I wasn't too pleased with how it worked, seemed rubbery so I want to find a different recipe.  Tasted just great I just wasn't happy with how the dough was.

the dough...

So anyways back to the filling... the best part lol.  You will need three eggs, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1 cup of corn syrup (i know!! horrible i hate the stuff unfortunately the only pie ingredients I had were pecan pie...), splash of vanilla, 1/2- 1 cup (depending on how nutty you like it) of pecans.  Whip them all into submission so that its all fluffy and thick and pour into pie crusts.

all whipped into submission

wow in the pie crust... so interesting lol!!

Then you place you little friends into the oven at 375 for 40-50 min.  Take out and let sit till set and BAM!  You got yourself and ready to eat pecan pie!

And that is the adventure of me making my VERY FIRST pie EVER!  I have to say I feel pretty good about myself.  Too bad fruit is so expensive... I would love to keep this pie series going and keep pumping them out!

please send me your BEST pie crust pastry recipes!!! I would love to try them all till i find that PERFECT one!

I've heard it's more in how you prepare the dough than the recipe. My BH&G cookbook has detailed instructions, and I'm sure you could find great YouTube videos on it.

You'll have to share the dough recipe once it's perfected. Whenever :) I tend to think pie when I have apples wilting on the counter, but I have yet to find a good crust recipe. A whole box of recipes from my Grandma, aptly named "Grandma's Kitchen Collection" (she loves the Shopping Channel) had lots of pie recipes, that all listed ONE REFRIGERATED PIE CRUST. Who's Grandma buys a pie crust???

That looks really lovely! This is the kind of pie my kids would go crazy for, well, actually they'd go crazy with just any pie, lol! I started to get really serious about learning to make pies when I noticed that my twin boys and baby girl really has a certain liking with pies. At first they seem to just care about sweet pies but lately they are loving my meat pies as well. :)

Looks delicious!! :) I always tend to go with an even unhealthier crust - crushed graham crackers mixed with butter. Hope you find one that works for you!!

My favorite pie is pumpkin... you can make those pretty cheaply!

Yum! Looks great!
To ease your mind, the corn syrup in your cupboard is much healthier than the dreaded High fructose Corn syrup:) It is a different thing all around!

I love that movie too! I think I watched it when I was on bed rest.

thanks for stopping by my place!

Oh, man... you do not know what you are doing to me with those pictures. I love me some pecan pie.

And I'm so impressed with how yours turned out... for your first pie especially! I don't bake. I call the bakery.
